IAAOC Process Addictions committee
Mission Statement
The IAAOC Process Addiction Committee’s mission is to work towards improving understanding among counselors, counselor educators, and counseling students of the professional clinical, ethical, and legal issues related to non-substance addictions such as pathological gambling, eating disorders, Internet gaming, sex, compulsive spending, work, relationship, non-suicidal self-injury, and other behaviors that may indicate potential for addiction. We hope to undertake research and develop resources that provide ongoing continuing education to the counseling profession to improve competency in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of these issues.
Vision
Our vision is that counselors and counselor educators will demonstrate competency regarding awareness, knowledge, and skills assessing, diagnosing, and treating/finding credible referral sources for non-substance addictions equal to their demonstrated competency in working with substance use disorders.
